the saga contines. CDC saying once again virus is airborne

If only they had told the white house sooner.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention acknowledged Monday that people can sometimes be infected with the coronavirus through airborne transmission, especially in enclosed spaces with inadequate ventilation.

The long-awaited update to the agency Web page explaining how the virus spreads represents an official acknowledgment of growing evidence that under certain conditions, people farther than six feet apart can become infected by tiny droplets and particles that float in the air for minutes and hours, and that they play a role in the pandemic.

“There is evidence that under certain conditions, people with COVID-19 seem to have infected others who were more than six feet away,” the updated Web page states. “These transmissions occurred within enclosed spaces that had inadequate ventilation. Sometimes the infected person was breathing heavily, for example while singing or exercising. the updated Web page states.”

Scientists find evidence of exotic state of matter in candidate material for quantum computers

Scientists find evidence of exotic state of matter in candidate material for quantum computers

The twisted octahedra formed by chlorine around the electron spin of each ruthenium atom are mirror images of each other. This twist is key to the compound’s unusual behavior, which is evidence that it may contain an example of a quantum spin liquid. Using a novel technique, scientists working at the Florida State University-headquartered National High Magnetic Field Laboratory have found evidence for a quantum spin liquid, a state of matter that is promising as a building block for the quantum computers of tomorrow.

Researchers discovered the exciting behavior while studying the so-called electron spins in the compound ruthenium trichloride. Their findings, published today in the journal Nature Physics , show that electron spins interact across the material, effectively lowering

John McAfee has been arrested in Spain and is facing extradition

John McAfee, who built a fortune selling cybersecurity software and has in recent years become a cryptocurrency evangelist, has been indicted on charges of tax evasion by the Department of Justice (DOJ). He has been arrested in Spain and is awaiting extradition, the DOJ said.

McAfee has had a contentious association with the law for years, though it’s at times unclear which run-ins are real and what has been fabricated. A former 2020 US Presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party (yes, really), he claimed that the campaign was “in exile” after he was charged with “using Crypto Cuttencies [sic] in criminal acts against the U. S. Government” in January 2019. In that same video, he said he hasn’t paid taxes in eight years. (That will matter later.) He also claimed the CIA had “attempted to collect us” in a July 2019 tweet with a photo of him on a

NASA satellite’s dazzling panorama hides 74 exoplanets (and potentially hundreds more)

This panorama of the northern sky is composed of 208 images taken by TESS in the second year of its mission.

A series of 208 images captured by NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) over one year reveal a dazzling sea of stars and 74 exoplanets in the northern sky, the space agency said in a release Monday. TESS has now imaged around 75% of the sky over two years. The planet-hunter wrapped up its second year of science operations in July.

Astronomers are looking through another 1,200 exoplanet candidates to confirm whether new worlds exist there. More than half of those candidates are in the northern sky, NASA says.

TESS pinpoints planets by monitoring several stars simultaneously over large chunks of the sky and keeping watch for any

Huge ‘queen of the ocean’ great white shark tagged offshore of Nova Scotia

OCEARCH is a non-profit organization that focuses on the research of the “ocean’s giants”. The team has just discovered an approximately 50-year-old great white shark off the coast of Nova Scotia.

Using the hashtag #FactsOverFear, the company shares important data discovered by their research. Nukumi’s story is an example of how their work goes beyond the data.

On Saturday, OCEARCH shared that “We named her ‘Nukumi’, pronounced noo-goo-mee, for the legendary wise old grandmother figure of the Native American Mi’kmaq people.”

Nukumi is 1,606 kilograms and almost 5.25 metres long. OCEARCH shared a video of the extrodinary tagging process:

The team tracks the sharks to learn about their migration patterns and uncover overall new shark-related information.

Chris Fischer, founding chairman and expedition leader, shared that he was “awestruck” when he was next to Nukumi.

Newly released maps comprised of 360-degree visualizations and before-and-after comparison photos captured by drones survey a little more than a quarter of the area scorched by the CZU Lightning Complex Fire in August.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office and Stockton Police to deploy 15 drone teams that made over 315 flights to collect the photos, panoramas and videos.

Using the CAL FIRE damage assessment map for reference, the teams collected imagery over 23,000 acres — or 35 square miles — of the 86,509 acres burned over 37 days in Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties. The 650 images focus on most of the damaged areas of Boulder Creek, Bonny Doon and Davenport, the communities hardest-hit by the blaze.

The teams that captured the images went out September 24

Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth joined conservationists at Aussie Ark for a historic moment in his homeland of Australia, where they reintroduced the Tasmanian devil to the mainland for the first time in an estimated 3,000 years.

Leave it to Thor to help bring back Tasmanian devils to Australia.

Hemsworth and his wife and actress Elsa Pataky helped release a group of 11 Tasmanian devils into a 1,000-acre wildlife sanctuary at Barrington Tops National Park in New South Wales on Sept. 10, as part of a crucial effort to restore the endangered species to its former habitat.

“We laid some traps to catch
