OnePlus 8T camera takes on Edinburgh’s fall colors

The OnePlus 8T comes with a slew of great features including 5G, superfast charging and a lovely display. But it’s the cameras on the back that I’m most interested in, so I was excited to get the phone in my hand and take it on a walk through the orange leaves of Edinburgh in the fall.

The 8T has four cameras: a 48-megapixel main camera, a 16-megapixel super wide angle, a 5-megapixel macro camera for close up shots, and an additional monochrome sensor for black and white photos. TL;DR: It can take great shots with the main and wide camera modes, but the black and white sensor is pointless and macro images don’t look good. Read on for more information and to see my test images.

COVID red zone violations caught on camera in New York City spark concern

MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (WABC) — As officials push to lower the number of COVID-19 cases in New York City’s hot zones, enforcement concerns continue.

There have been several incidents of people blatantly not following the restrictions in those red zones – and there is fear about what this could mean as work continues to curb the infection rate.

Tuesday night in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, a crowd was spotted leaving what appeared to be a large indoor gathering.

Many people were seen on camera not wearing masks.

And on the same day that the mayor praised efforts to suppress the coronavirus, Eyewitness News found hundreds of young children being dismissed from a school.

They were herded onto buses Tuesday afternoon, some wearing masks, some not. All of them were attending Bais Yaacov School on 51st Street.

The building is inside the state’s red zone and should have been closed starting last week.

Canon’s EOS M50 Mark II mirrorless camera is aimed at creators

Canon has unveiled the 24-megapixel EOS M50 Mark II with relatively minor updates to the popular original aimed mostly at creators. The biggest change is an upgraded Dual Pixel autofocus system that now allows for continuous eye-tracking in video, rather than in just some still modes as before. That will make it more practical for interviews or vlogging (albeit in HD only and not 4K) as the camera can keep your subject in focus by itself.

It can also capture vertical video that you can stream on YouTube live using a smartphone connection. And for vloggers, the flip-out display offers a tap-to-record button, along with tap-to-focus and a movie self timer. On the photo side, the EOS M50 II now has an electronic shutter option. Topping off the new options is webcam support with Canon’s EOS utility software.

Canon PowerShot ZOOM adds a monocular telephoto camera to the portfolio

It might not be an opportune time to be out and about but Canon thinks people will, at one point in time, want to escape the monotony of the new normal and go outdoors. Some might even take to nature and to the night skies for a bit of reprieve. Those are pretty much the situations where Canon’s newest PowerShot ZOOM camera might be of use, helping people get close to the action even while staying far, far away.

Canon’s PowerShot line is designed for ease of use and you probably can’t get any simpler than this. Coming in a form reminiscent of camcorders, the PowerShot ZOOM is a compact monocular camera that does just one thing and that is to take you closer to your subject matter as quickly and as easily as possible.

To that end, the PowerShot ZOOM offers three telephoto lengths of 100mm, 400mm, and 800mm,

The iPhone 12 Pro Max could be Apple’s biggest camera jump in years

Apple has announced its iPhone 12 lineup, and as ever, the phones’ camera systems were the focus of much of the company’s presentation. This year, though, there’s more to differentiate each model than ever before. The iPhone range is getting improvements across the board, but Apple appears to be reserving the biggest advances for its biggest phone. The 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max has some serious hardware improvements that set its camera apart from every other iPhone.

Hardware-wise, there doesn’t appear to be much difference between the iPhone 12, 12 mini, and 12 Pro when compared to the 11 and 11 Pro. All of these phones use the same-sized 12 megapixel sensors for wide, ultrawide, and the Pro model’s telephoto cameras, and the shape and size of the camera bump remains essentially the same.

Official render reveals the Huawei Mate 40 series’ unique camera array

huawei mate 40 octagonal camera array
  • An official render of a Huawei Mate 40 series phone has surfaced online.
  • The render suggests at least one of the phones in the series will sport an octagonal camera array.
  • It seems the phone will also sport physical volume buttons.

Growing tired of the all-too-common rectangle camera arrays on flagships? The Huawei Mate 40 series may represent something of a break. According to a teaser (via GSMArena) posted to Weibo by Huawei’s head of mobile product, He Gang, at least one of the phones in the range will sport an octagonal camera array.

Judging by the render, the six-sided array will occupy a large portion of the phone’s upper third. It’s a stark departure from previous non-official renders portraying the Mate 40 with a circular camera array. The render doesn’t give us much info on the actual sensor arrangement or how many shooters will be present. Huawei fans

Breaking down Apple’s three new iPhone 12 camera systems

Apple has just announced its iPhone 12 lineup, and as part of today’s announcements, the company introduced a dizzying amount of camera tech scattered amongst the new iPhones. If you’re coming from an iPhone that currently has a single camera, or even a pair, you may find some serious upgrades here.

But first, let’s establish the baseline.

The iPhone SE’s camera.

One camera: iPhone SE (2020) and iPhone XR

The iPhone SE turned heads earlier this year at a $399 price, and the iPhone XR is now $499. Both have a single 12-megapixel f/1.8 “wide” camera, though they’re not quite the same — the XR has a larger sensor, while the iPhone SE appears to be a smaller one similar to 2017’s iPhone 8. Neither has ultrawide or telephoto lenses, nor fancy Deep Fusion techniques; your portrait-mode shots are also limited to what Apple’s machine learning algorithms can guess about

Fayetteville traffic: Lackluster report shows increase in traffic crashes, serious wrecks despite red light camera program

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) — The city of Fayetteville’s Red Light Camera Program is garnering very little results in their latest report, seeing an increase in traffic crashes and the seriousness of those wrecks.

City staff gathered the latest numbers for city council to look over at a future work session meeting; Councilwoman Yvonne Kinston requested the latest data.

Since 2015, when the program first started, at least 12 major intersections have had red light cameras installed. Some of those intersections include: Skibo Road at Morganton Road, Ramsey Street at Law Road and Bragg Boulevard at Cain Road. In that time, violators have received a $100 fine.

Despite city leaders’ wishes to see this program drop traffic crash numbers, the report shows an increase in nearly every metric.

The report collects data from the last two years at the 12 to 13 intersection spots. City officials said they’ve seen 30 more
