How Digital Technology Could Lead The ‘New Business Normal’ In Latin America

Managing Director & Founder of the Biz Latin Hub Group.

The most significant technological advancements that currently shape our society and economy have emerged from challenging times. The internet, for example — without which our daily life as we know it would be possible — emerged in light of the Cold War, after the United States Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) and MIT scientists invented a method to prevent communications from being affected in the event of an attack.

According to the UN, a report from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean found that the Covid-19 pandemic is expected to result in the loss of 8.5 million jobs in Latin America and the Caribbean. It has produced new realities through which life and business have managed to get ahead. Digital technology has proven to be the great ally of humanity, facilitating the adaptation of economies

New study says Trump could be in the lead on Election Night but lose by week’s end

Republican President Donald Trump leads strongly among those who say they are unlikely to vote by mail, while Democrat Joe Biden has a solid lead among voters overall, suggesting that results will shift toward Biden as mail-in votes are tallied after Election Day, a new national survey finds.

Trump leads, 68 percent to 23 percent, among those who say they are very unlikely to vote by mail. Biden, however, leads among all voters, 50 to 40 percent, according to a report on the survey released Friday by researchers from Northeastern University, Harvard University, Rutgers University, and Northwestern University.

“There will therefore likely be enormous shifts toward Biden after election day,” David Lazer, a Northeastern University political science and computer science professor who worked on the report, said in an e-mail.

“The pattern of a shift toward Biden driven by mail-in voting is quite robust across the country. We anticipate a

High-speed low-power printed transistors could lead to new display technologies — ScienceDaily

The chances are you are reading these words on a smartphone or computer screen. For around the last 10 years, these types of screens have been based on a display technology composed of so-called thin film transistors. These are inorganic transistors which require very little power, and they have proven themselves very capable given their widespread adoption. But they have some limits which researchers have been busy trying to overcome.

“We explore new ways to improve upon thin film transistors, such as new designs or new methods of manufacture,” said Gyo Kitahara, a Ph.D. student from the Department of Applied Physics. “Organic thin film transistors, for example, have a bright future in LCD screen devices. Compared to the inorganic kind currently used, we expect the organic kind to be useful in low-cost, large-area, lightweight and wearable electronic products, especially by using printing-based production technologies.”

Australia’s report on agtech confirms technology can lead to a fertile future

The horizon scanning report on the future of agricultural technologies has identified how adopting new technologies — such as sensor, robotic, artificial intelligence (AI), data, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and distributed ledger — could improve the sector’s productivity, diversity, and profitability.

The Future of Agriculture Technologies report [PDF] was released by the Australian Council of Learned Academics (ACOLA) on Tuesday, after it was commissioned by Australia’s chief scientist Alan Finkel, on behalf of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), to undertake the project.

“Australia’s diverse agriculture, fisheries, and forestry sector is a AU$69 billion industry … however, reaching the government’s goal of AU$100 billion by 2030 will likely require more than just incremental technological advancements,” Finkel said.

“Historically, Australian producers have been rapid adopters of innovation, and these emerging technologies will help our agriculture sector to transform and tackle current and future challenges.”

The report highlighted how the deployment of technologies,
